you're absolutely right.
i've just read your proposal again.
you already _can_ assing a class of similar machines to one builder, 
like you requested , but the only way to manage slave assignment so far 
is the lock mechanisms. no semaphores yet, not to speak of outside world 
contact for load balancing.
you can do very primitive load balancing (one build per available slave) 
via builder slave locks though.
