Hi all,

I’d like to start the project of my proposal (Migrate to Material Design) in a couple of days as the overall work is a little more than only spend the summer to finish. Although accepted students will not be announced util 27 April, I am willing to start my work as soon as 7 April.

Before beginning to code, I think we should have some discussion about the following questions.

How the new UI should be fit into current code base? It is said by Pierre that he’d like to release the first version of Nine with current Web UI based on Bootstrap and Material Design should be a parallel project that provide the users an alternative. So, should the new UI be in a new folder with independent PyPI entrance or we just works on another branch of current repo.
There are two ways to build the new UI. The first one is that we work on current code under www and modify the code in place. The other one is that we start from a brand new structures, build the UI from bottom up, and copy necessary and reusable codes from old base during this progress. Which one do you think is better?
There are two views that are quite uncompleted in current Web UI: waterfall_view and console_view. I’m not sure what the two views actually do and thus can not decide the positions of these two views in the new Web UI. Can you give a simple explain of the two views? Are these two view necessary in the new Web UI?
How do you think about these questions? Looking forward to comments.
