I agree that doing the simple things isnt as simple as it could be.

As for what we can do, I'm not sure. I think we would need to pursue a data-driven way to configure buildbot, and I know some have been thinking about this. Once it's data-driven, then you could invent UI for the simple tasks, and still provide all the Python customization and expert configurabilty you get today.
