We got Windows Active Directory logging working via SSPI to play nice with buildbot. Works pretty well and ties into our network infrastructure nicely.

I think twisted has some auth related code, I've never played with it.
IMHO, I wouldn't try to do anything fancy, as WebStatus and friends are not really meant to scale anyway.
