Great!

Hopefully we'll see some feedback on this.  It would be great to have
some unit tests that don't run unless they're provided with an access
and secret key via environment variables.  I know that testing steps
is hard right now, because they depend on lots of status stuff, but it
would be good to have some evidence of the working-ness of these
steps, even if we don't run those tests automatically.
