Displaying stuff to the public helps us understand where things stand.  That status is not window dressing at all.

Because it's providing a form of (terrible, but still usable) project management.  You can set private milestones as well, but that wouldn't appear to help you either way.

Is the code feature complete in his branch?  Is it atleast stable enough to run?  We've not seen a status in a while.
