[users at bb.net] Internode security?

Hi all,

I'm in charge of setting up our CI infrastructure, and I'm most of the way
through setting up BuildBot.  I'm working on a distributed project, with
multiple universities involved.  The goal here is to have a master node
somewhere, and multiple workers at other insitutions - all connected over
the WAN.  Is this something sane, or do I need to apply some kind of
security layer over top of the links?  Are the connections between master
and worker secured at all aside from the password?
