[Buildbot-devel] Batch System

Hi Everyone,

How plausible do you think it would be to build a generalized distributed batch system with buildbot?

We'd like to be able to submit a general job package (including executables, input files, etc.) from any computer for internal tools and general developer use. (The file set would possibly be transferred to the slave or run from a share if it's large.) I noticed 0.9 has the Data API which would seem to make this possible, but given that's  not ready for prime time, is there a way to do this in 0.8? Maybe a custom scheduler that fields rest requests? Or could I make a local python script that would behave like the web page as far as  monitoring capabilities and ability to trigger a build? If it's cumbersome to do in 0.8, how useable is 0.9 right now? I'm setting up a new system from scratch, so legacy configuration is not an issue.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
