[Buildbot-devel] Hi everyone, I'm a student planning to apply for GSoC this year.

(my apologies for the late reply)

Welcome! Working with Buildbot is a great way to figure out what the
software is about, and where the different suggested projects fit in.
I don't know if you've seen our application template:

  http://trac.buildbot.net/wiki/GsocApplicationTemplate

but part of the application is to set up a Buildbot instance on a
public server, so you're partway there already! Do let us know if you
have any questions -- either here or, if you prefer, in #buildbot on
freenode.

It's also helpful to contribute in some small way to Buildbot, so that
we know you understand the git patch submission process. See
http://trac.buildbot.net/wiki/SubmittingPatches and, for a list of
bugs that may not take too long to fix,
http://trac.buildbot.net/tags?q=%27simple%27

Regarding the plugin architecture (bug 2460), it will also be good for
you to look at how change sources, build steps, and so on are
implemented now. It is probably good to look at a few other Python
tools implement plugins. From my own googling around, I see
http://docs.pylonsproject.org/projects/pylons-webframework/en/latest/advanced_pylons/entry_points_and_plugins.html
and http://aroberge.blogspot.com/2008/12/plugins-part-1-application.html

This is an ambitious project, so we'll want to see lots of evidence in
the application that you understand what is involved and are ready to
get started once GSoC begins.
