Just to add some fuel to the fire here, we too are starting to evaluate an
alternative to Buildbot in order to "modernize." We are currently running a
TeamCity server with two of our myriad builds paralleled on it for team
evaluation. To be fair, we have also adopted Atlassian tools (JIRA and
Confluence), and TeamCity provides an interface that has a similar
look-and-feel, so on top of a feature set that offers some workflow
improvements over Buildbot, it also provides an interface to which we are all
becoming more accustomed.

I have spent a great deal of time just to become somewhat expert on Buildbot,
but I am not the type to champion a technology just because I am familiar with
it. If my team decides that TeamCity provides more value to their daily
workflow (even in the "free" edition), then I back that. I continue to employ
Buildbot for personal use, but I need my team to feel not only comfortable
with their tools, but also increasingly productive with them, and that of
course often means "modernizing"our tools. If our existing tools do not offer
such modernized versions, then we naturally seek them elsewhere.
