I posted a PR bringing built-in Jabber support for Buildbot already:

  https://github.com/buildbot/buildbot/pull/557

Unfortunately it stalled, as noone stepped up streamlining it for inclusion 
into upstream. I'd be happy to have it upstream, of course.

It's using python-wokkel as backend for the communication with Jabber/XMPP and 
is in a usable state -- we're using it for quite some time already at our 
company.

Feel free to try it out (and help to get it upstream!)
