Hi Tom,
Would you elaborate more on what you mean? When you say branches, did you mean topic branches on gerrit or the pre-merged references created on gerrit? I know that gerrit keep some kind of dependencies between patch-sets which requires patches to be merge in some kind of order but I am not familiar with gerrit internal (does it use branch to keep those dependency information? is that what you were referring to?)

One way of handling this is to have branches for this. Both gerrit and
github do this.
