As maintainer, I think this is great, and encourage others to do the
same.  For the moment, it's fine to post to this list with such
requests.  If it becomes too noisy, we'll find another way (that would
be a good problem to have!).

I'm more than happy to work with any contractors who are hired for
this purpose to make sure that the contributions are upstream-able, or
at least forward-portable if the feature is not one that belongs
upstream.  Both of the features in this case will be valuable upstream
(and as Tom points out, the second one is easier than you thought).
