No, there may have been an unrelated system failure that took
everything down (and may have broken the smtp daemon first,
causing this trouble, who knows).

Thanks for confirming that buildbot should simply drop
outgoing messages but keep running.

This is the first week I've tried to keep a buildbot running,
I'm sure I'll run into more newbie issues as time goes on.
