[Buildbot-devel] Writing a custom status report

I'm thinking about adding a new status report to the default displays
(Waterfall, Grid, etc.) that will mine build slave step output for
performance information, and then display it to the user on demand.

The Buildbot docs are a bit short on the process of writing custom
status plug-ins (or I missed it completely). In fact, Section 7.5
"Writing New Status Plugins" says "TODO: this needs a lot more
examples." Can somebody point me to a Web link, or more robust location
in the docs, that provide information of this kind? What I'm looking
for is information in the nature of, for example, "Within a Python
status plug-in, this is how you get log output from a specific build
slave's build step...". I know I can read the included status plug-ins
(i.e., waterfall.py), but I am interested in seeing the bigger picture
-- if it has been documented.
