To counter:
it would be good if vendors shipped up-to-date versions of packages
I realize the usual caveats in this -- I've been having this
discussion about Amanda for years. I also realize that Sid ships with
0.7.10p1:
  http://packages.debian.org/sid/buildbot

This is Python code, and virtualenv if ridiculously easy to install,
even on Debian:
  http://packages.debian.org/stable/python/python-virtualenv
So there's really nothing to prevent people installing the latest
release of Buildbot, particularly if the tutorial makes it clear how
to do so.

I'm going to stand firm on this because Buildbot simply does not have
the human resources to substantively support older versions (answering
questions on this list is fine, of couse). The tutorial should
reflect the latest version of Buildbot.
