Thank you for your response. You are correct that this is a gentoo
specific problem with the init script. I posted a response to the
buildbot-devel list, but it was moderated-out for being too long, so I
have trimmed the details to get this posted.

The problem is that the init script will not allow both master and slave
to start concurrently on the same machine. An init script that does not
have this bug has been posted on that bug. I hope the patched init
script appears in the ebuild of buildbot-0.7.8 when that becomes
available.
