[Buildbot-devel] Customizing index.html

I have a buildbot setup with the index.html containing the usual links to waterfall, about, change sources etc

How do I add a new link to this page that does some custom stuff? e.g. If i edit index.html to add a link called "Display Custom Stats", where do I need to place the code that executed this functionality?

I can subclass HtmlResource just as is done in buildbot/status/web/, but then i'll have to be change baseweb.py etc to get it working...

what is the recommended way to extend the index.html.
