[Buildbot-devel] Stopping builders while they are waiting for the locks

I'd like to be able to stop builders while they are waiting for a lock.
When this occurs, I observe in base.py, where we call
self.currentStep.interrupt(reason), the currentStep is None.  
 
Is this a know issue?  Is there an easy workaround for this?
