 That's all nice and everything, but all these problems appeared after
 migrating from 0.8.5 to 0.8.7;
 the old machine was running Apple's Python (Snow Leopard), the new machine
 is running Apple's Python (Mountain Lion)

 Old: root# python --version
 Python 2.6.1

 New: root# python --version
 Python 2.7.2
