 Developers who want to do a try build which happens to change .gitmodules
 are sorely disappointed with the results, as the try build is done without
 the intended submodule update.

 Doing 'git submodule init; git submodule update' after buildbot finishes
 preparing the source tree works around the problem.

 This is with v0.8.11-pre-275 or so.
