 I'm not familiar with the gitpoller code, but:

 https://github.com/buildbot/buildbot/blob/buildbot-0.8.9/master/buildbot/changes/gitpoller.py#L292
 shows:

  [command] + args, path=path, env=os.environ)

 can you dump out what's in the env?  (which takes the value from
 os.environ)
