I understand, and agree. I haven't seen the particular change that makes 
index.html files not being served verbatim any longer, and wonder why it 
is needed. I added a change myself that would allow a templatized 
directory view, yet following the same semantics as before: as soon as 
an index.html file was present, that was served instead. Thus, any user 
customization was being respected.
